The Invisible Girl
Her name was Kat. Her identity was completely unknown to her and to everyone she came in contact with. Her voice was hidden and rare, like a hibernating bird.
How is that possible? To be a ghost in this world. It can either be bliss or insanity. For Kat, it was neither. She didn't despise being invisible, she felt safe in knowing that her mistakes would go unnoticed and her cries unheard. Though, there were parts of her that longed to be embraced. She felt like Schrödinger’s Cat; as if being looked at would prove to her that she was not dead, that she could feel and cry and laugh again.
Feel again because she was once the most sensitive person in her family, until that day the world magically turned her into a gravestone. A withered one that shamefully read, “I gave up on playing this game.” That was the truth that submerged her life under a muddy pond. The truth that weighed so heavily upon her. She was the sinking gravestone.
One morning, Kat was surprised when she looked outside her window to see that the ocean had calmed and Kat felt light again. She was a floating feather being lifted to the surface of a filthy pond. This euphoric feeling that revived Kat’s every sense was the product of a dream, the kind of dream so vivid, Kat remembered what it was to feel love again.
She saw him there and she knew who he was right away. There were no words, no touch, she simply looked into the man’s eyes and felt that he was her other half. She could feel him rescue her from the tempest she had been living in, feeding her breaths of hope.
So Kat woke up and decided to go on a search for the mysterious man she had felt so deeply within the confines of her dream. She knew nothing about his life, but she knew his energy and that would be enough to tell her who he was. He was a flame strong enough to light her hopelessly burnt wick.
After a week full of endless searching, Kat decided to stop. Something inside reassured her that instead, he would come to her when he was ready, when she was ready. So she settled and decided to pursue her passions. Kat talked again, and discovered all those years of silence had bestowed her with the most supple voice. She became a singer and healed the masses with her melodies.
Years later, Kat was swimming happily in the sea. And she saw him coming toward her. They reached into each other’s hearts and their hands swaddled their hearts like a mother does her newborn.
